A clinic that moves with its community - Palm Island Medical and Aged Care Build
This build for Palm Island Community Company was designed with a very specific purpose- to deliver both medical and aged care services in a way that is practical, consistent, and genuinely usable in the community.
From the outset, the focus was not just on creating a mobile clinic, but on building one that reflects how care is actually delivered on Palm Island.
Built for stability, not just mobility
One of the defining features of this clinic is its hydraulic levelling system.
In community settings, perfectly flat ground is not guaranteed. The integrated hydraulic lift allows the vehicle to stabilise and level on arrival - creating a safe, secure environment for both patients and staff. This is particularly important in aged care, where even small movements or instability can impact patient confidence and safety.
Two clinical spaces, not one
Inside the clinic, two dedicated clinical stations allow for parallel use.
This is a significant step up from traditional mobile setups. It means more patients can be seen, better use of time on site, and greater flexibility in how care is delivered - whether that’s separating consultation types or running concurrent workflows.
Telehealth that actually works
Telehealth has been built into the clinic as a core function, not an afterthought.
A fixed telehealth screen, supported by Starlink connectivity, allows clinicians to connect reliably with off-site specialists. In a setting like Palm Island, this changes what is possible - bringing additional expertise into the room without requiring patients to leave the community.
Designed for care beyond the van
Healthcare here doesn’t stop at the door of the clinic.
This build includes dedicated storage for outdoor chairs and equipment, allowing the team to easily set up external clinics. It creates a more approachable, flexible model of care—where patients can engage without needing to step inside immediately, and health promotion can happen in a more open, community-based setting.
Storage that supports real workflows
A significant focus of this build is storage. Not just volume - but usability.
Equipment, consumables, and clinical tools are organised in a way that supports fast, efficient workflows. Everything has a place, and everything is accessible when it’s needed. That matters in outreach settings, where time and flow are critical.
Built with elderly patients in mind
This clinic has been specifically designed to support aged care.
Custom access steps have been developed to make entry and exit safer and more manageable for elderly patients. Combined with the stability of the hydraulic system and the internal layout, it creates a space that feels considered—not improvised.
Delivered on the ground
We travelled to Palm Island to launch the clinic alongside the team and deliver on-site training.
Every system was tested. Every workflow walked through. The goal was simple - ensure the clinic could be used confidently and properly from day one.
A complete, working solution
This is not a concept. It’s not a partial solution.
It’s a fully realised mobile medical and aged care clinic - designed with intent, built around real use, and delivered ready to perform.
For Palm Island Community Company, it expands what their team can do. For the community, it brings care closer, in a way that is consistent, practical, and considered. And for us, it represents exactly what we aim to build every time. A clinic that works.
